Xan nodded her head in approval looking at Nyven then turned back to face her quarry, feeling the excitement of battle build up in her washing away the feeling of sleepiness she had from the nap she just got up from. "Dee what our status?" She asked the child, who had righted the over turned table and was sitting on it kicking her legs smiling. "Brass says no no on any usage of power or your weapon." Dee said giggling, Xan placed her palm on her face. "What the heck? How do they expect me fight if I can't even use my scythe." The abomination slowly got up then whipped it's tail kicking up a cloud of dust then charged at full speed at Xan.
She stood there not seeming to noticed it as she engaged Dee in this weird conversation, just when the monster was about to reach Xan she whipped around and kicked the monster right in the center of it's skull causing the monster to tumble and roll away. "I was talking to Dee, don't interrupt." Turn back towards Dee, Xan signed. "I guess if I have to I'll beat this thing with my fists, it's not to tough." Xan turned and faced back towards the monster, looking back over her shoulder. "Hey Dee make sure that everyone is ok ,this things fear field is pretty strong and looks like it hit everyone pretty hard." Xan rushed to faced her opponent as dee skipped over to Nyven.

"Hi Hi silly Miss's Lady how are you? Xan Xan's taking care of the big scary monster so I'm in charge of helping people." Dee did a couple hops of glee. "You need some help Miss's Lady?"

Nyven gently held the still quivering Tiri in her arms, trying to make sense of what was going on. Far too much had happened in such a short time frame. Adding in the fact that she had woken up only a short while ago, all of the thinking just left her with a headache. Giving a stressed sigh, she took her left hand and gently patted Tiri on the head and began speaking in a quiet tone, "This has been a really tough morning, hasn't it, Tir-Eiaah!"

Nyven was cut off with a startled cry as the young girl cheerfully hopped over and began to speak to her. With slight tears and heavy breathing, she held Tiri closer, like a child hugs their bear after waking up from a nightmare. Taking a few breaths, she attempted to reply to the girl's question.

"I- I..." Words were not coming to her very well. With another breath, she tried to speak again, "Um... Wh-who are you people..?"

Dee giggled loudly. "We're the people helping you silly Miss's Lady. I'm the great and mighty Dee!" She exclaimed right arm raised with her index finger pointed towards the sky, she giggled again and then pointed her finger towards Xan who was battling away with the monster. "And that's my sidekick Xan Xan!" Dee side stepped a fireball the monster unleashed without even looking as she continued talking in her fast paced hyperactive way, while behind them Xan who did not like her friend getting almost fired by a fireball grabbed the monster by the tail and swung it around over her head throwing it into a house. "So anyway other questions, huh huh?" she said dancing back and forth.

Nyven was shocked, watching Dee step aside from the ball of fire as it flew past while keeping such a happy and childlike demeanor. Then that Xan Xan effortlessly flinging the giant monster about made her begin questioning her sanity. Having trouble taking everything in all at once, she shifted herself back to rest against the wall of the building behind her.

"N-no... No more questions..." She returned an answer, bowing her head down with her eyes close as she continued to hug Tiri.

"EEeeeeeeeeeee!" Dee squealed when she saw Tiri. "It's so cute! What his name? Can I pet him?" She moved closer trying to examine the little wyvern, looking up she noticed the expression on Nyven's face. "Are you ok Miss's Lady, you don't look so well." Behind them Xan picked up a beam from the destroyed building and started smacking the monster around with it. "Dee could really use my weapon right now." Xan said as the creature backhanded the beam out of her hand causing her to do several back flips to avoid getting hit. Dee sighed. "Always ruining my fun Xan Xan." Looking at Nyven Shyly. "Umm Miss's Lady, Brass says I can't give Xan Xan her weapons, but they didn't say you couldn't give her a weapon." Dee tugged on Nyven's sleeve. "Please Miss's Lady help us?"

Nyven remained silent through the child's squeals of delight upon seeing Tiri. She was far too concerned over the immediate situation and started and started locking down, mentally. It wasn't until she felt Dee pulling at her sleeve and asking for help that she snapped out of this freezing depression. Taking a startled breath, she looked at the child and began to speak.

"Help? What am I supposed to help with?" She asked, each word filled with more stress than the last, not sure what Dee was saying moments before. "How could I possibly help do anything with a monster like that rampaging about?!"

Dee crossed her arms sighing in boredom. "You weren't listening where you silly Miss's Lady?" Behind them The monster was unleashing fireballs at Xan as she nimbly dodged them. "Xan Xan's really strong Miss's Lady, She makes big owchies all the time, so Brass says she can't make big owchies unless Brass says so, but!" Dee held her hands behind her back swaying forward and back. "Brass says nothing about using someone else weapons to make owchies. She smiled innocently as the fight continued to rage behind her, the creature had suddenly taken the tactic of attacking the incapacitated people on the ground to throw Xan off guard.

"So Miss's Lady will you help Xan Xan?" She then giggled. "Also Miss's Lady might feel better if she smiled more, all frowny like she is, silly Miss's Lady."

Nyven stared at Dee feeling astonished by her request. She began reactively shouting as she began to question what was being asked of her.

"You want me to actually fight that thing?!" She pulled herself to her feet, Tiri still held firmly with her right arm. She gestured her left arm towards the creature fighting with the woman down the road. "That monster is over three times my size! It's practically made of fire, and--!!"

Nyven's voice stifled as she glanced back over to the battle to witness a horrifying sight. The beast had begun attacking the immobilized townspeople. Her footing had unsettled as it brought to mind a distant memory of one of the many lessons that was taught to her during her early studying of magic.

~~~~~
"Remember, Nyven," the voice of her father had begun echoing in her mind, "We're not just learning magic for entertainment. We learn it to gain a better understanding of our world and then manipulate its various elements. We then use the knowledge we gain so that we may one day help those around us." An affectionate smile was vividly remembered along with those words. "You're going to help a lot of people one day, aren't you?"
~~~~~

She had raised her free hand to the dagger shaped mark of her cheek. Her breathing had calmed down a fair amount. As she took a single deep breath, she sat Tiri down gently onto the crate she had hid herself behind. Without averting her eyes from the the skirmish down the road, she began speak to Dee, "... Wha... What exactly do you want me to do again?"

"Silly Miss's Lady, it isn't made of fire." Dee took Nyven By the hand pointing towards the monster. For some reason, whether it was Nyven's magic of something else, but the fire on the monster changed, while it still was a blazing inferno the source of the flames came from within the creature. The more Nyven's focused on the flames the more they changed, it became to the point where it seemed like the fire was screaming in pain and fear. "Poor little fire spirits." Said Dee sadly. Suddenly it was very clear to Nyven, no longer where they dancing flames across the monsters body but in fact dozens of fire spirits trapped within the monster screaming for help.

The battle raged on through the town, while Xan's continues attacks where leaving noticeable cracks a and impacts on the monsters body it kept coming, the abomination hit Xan with a backhand knocking her across the ground. Quickly she recovered mid-tumble resting on her knee panting. "Is....Is it me or is this thing getting smarter?" Looking at Dee. "Anytime now Dee." Quickly she got to her feet and rushed back at the monster.

Dee letting go of Nyven's hand turned towards her speaking in a suddenly mature manner. "Miss's Lady I'm not sure if you really can help judging by your behavior to this events, but I have no choice, Xan's power is so great that she isn't allowed to use it around civilians. So we have to do one of three things, you have to help her, or move the civilians to a safe distance, or provide her with a weapon that can cut that thing!" Dee took a deep breath and resumed her normal way of speaking. "Please help Miss's Lady."

Nyven contemplated what to do for at that moment. She didn't think she had quite the needed strength to move people farther away from that creature, nor did she have a cutting weapon. However, she made sure to take note of the fire spirits. She came to the conclusion that the creature's power was being drawn from the spirits, allowing it to become more powerful as the spirits are. Perhaps she'd be able to slow the creature down if she used her wind magic.

But before she could do anything, she turned to Dee. "Umm... Tell me... Seeing as you seem to have seen these before..." She paused for a moment and took a breath, "If I were to use my wind magic to, say, thin the atmosphere around that thing to weaken the flames, it'd supply the spirits trapped in it with less energy, and therefor make the monster lose strength, right?"

Dee thought for a moment. "The creature is a ravenous abomination, it eats spirits to gain strength, the spirits have already been devoured by the monster." The abomination throw a punch at Xan which she blocked, as she should there holding the monsters fist it rose it's other fist into the air and hammered it down on Xan, she quickly caught it being pushed down to her knees as she held it back as the creature tried to crush her.

Xan took a peek over at Nyven as she struggled to hold back it's fist. "What is she waiting for? I saw Dee break the effects of the fear field over her why hasn't she helped" Xan thought as the monster pressed down harder with all it's strength. "Like always I have to fight alone." Tears began to form in her eyes. No matter the situation I am always feared and rejected. Not even when I'm fighting to save everyone, fighting for my life, I am alone.... Alone...." Xan let loose a cry of rage and threw the creature off her, then fueled by the rage she started unleashing a barrage of punches smashing the creature back, the monster suddenly changed from a fearful attacking monster to a pitiful creature trying it's best to put up a defense against the onslaught before it. "Dee unlock my powers now! I command you!" She shouted in a commanding voice as she kept punching.

Dee stumbled back like she was hit by a blow. "Si....Silly Miss's Lady." She took a deep breath. "The monster is a living breathing creature thinning the air will effect it like any other living thing. But it would effect the fire spirits too." Dee put her hand on her chest panting. "Please hurry Miss's Lady this can't go on much longer."

Nyven hesitated for a moment as she saw Dee appearing to be in pain. She then glanced back at the creature. As she looked on, her gaze went to the crack in its skull from the earlier blows it had received. Its bones were sturdy, but it wasn't unbreakable. After pondering for a moment, she had a sudden burst of thought on a possible strategy to defeat the creature. If she could reduce the intensity of the spirit's flames and have it lured near a sufficient source of water, she could probably freeze it over just long enough for the warrior woman Xan to use the opportunity to shatter it.

She quickly turned back to Dee, "I'm sorry, you look to be in pain, but, I haven't been able to see anything of this town yet." She took a small breath, "Is there a good source of water nearby? A water tower, drinking well, horses' water troughs, or anything?"

Dee seemed to recover some. "It.... It's nothing Miss's Lady." Dee thought for a moment. "Water, Water. Hmm... I think the villagers said something about the village well had dried up many years ago and they get water from a stream not far from here." Suddenly the ground shook with another heavy temor knocking the combatants apart and bringing Nyven and Dee to the ground. The ground shook harder and bursting forth from the hole that the monster had came up from the ground a geyser of boiling water rushed forth.

Xan stood up quickly and tackled the monster before it could recover.

Dee looked in amazement. "That explains how it found all those fire spirits, there must be a massive heat source underground that they made their home, the rumbling must of been caused by the water building up pressure.... Miss's Lady the water! You can use it!.

"We don't have the kind of time to get to a stream..." Nyven said quietly, feeling a sense of doubt in the situation and she began trying to think of another plan. "Maybe if I-- Aah!"

Nyven fell to her knees as water burst out from the pit that the creature had crawled from. "Ah! Water!" She called out as her hopes began to rise. Quickly climbing to her feet as Xan tackled the beast to the ground, she began running towards the field of the battle ahead without skipping a beat so that she could get closer to the water. The closer she was, the greater the efficiency of her strategy.

Being within several yards, she raised her staff above her head and started spinning it counterclockwise. As she made this action, the flow of air in the area started increasing in speed. Within moments, the wind was moving quite rapidly, as if a storm was starting to pick up. With a sudden stop, she made the spins of her staff stop with one of the metal ends pointed towards the geyser, giving her a mental focus point towards the opposite side of the pillar of water.

"Step back!" Nyven called out in warning to the woman attempting to subdue the creature as she Made a turn to her right to place her vision on their enemy. With that turn, she made two clockwise spins of her staff and pointed it at the creature, where the wind currents then started forcing through the rising water, carrying it towards the grounded opponent.

Xan caught what was doing out of the corner of her eye. "What the..." The words "Step back" struck her. "Right, easier said then done." Xan dodged a few more blows. "Attack on my mark!" She shouted, waiting for her opportunity.

The monster threw a punch at Xan. "Now!" She shouted, then with the skill of a acrobat she leaped on the monsters fist, ran up it's arm jumping landing on it's head then the second she touched it's head spring boarding off landing twenty feet away.

"Now Miss's Lady!" Shouted Dee hopping in excitement.

Nyven unscrewed one of the rounded metal ends on her staff and ran towards to monster while trying to remain out of its field of vision. As she ran, she removed the glove from her left hand and started wrapping it around the metal sphere in her right, preparing for the next part of her plan. She knew the intense heat of the water would affect the freezing of the creature on its own, so she had to reinforce it with a secondary method of temperature control.

When she reached the monster, she placed her bare hand onto it's left leg and the wrapped metal pressed inches away with the other hand. Closing her eyes and biting her lower lip, she began focusing on removing the heat from the creature and freezing it. Ice began slowly forming around her left hand, but gradually started to speed up. As the freezing grew faster, some steam could be seen coming from the wrapped metal sphere in her right hand.

The abomination kept it's eyes on Xan wondering when the annoyingly strong human would attack it again, it quickly turned following her as she leaped away from it. Suddenly out of the corner of it's eye it saw another human, a tremor of fear went through it's body for a moment think the one annoying human had brought another, however it noticed it was just the cowardly one that it had attacked earlier. A breath of fire escaped it's mouth in the form of sigh of relief, till it noticed the weak human was rushing it doing something weird with it's stick thing.

What was the human doing it wonder. It watched as Nyven placed her hand on it's leg. What was it doing now? Touching it's beautiful body with those little filthy human hands. Suddenly it felt the cold energy pirece it's hide, rearing back breathing fire it. The little human thing had made it cold! And it hurt! It was one thing for the strong human thing to hurt it with it's fists, it could always heal those wounds latter. But this coldness was a force it hadn't dealt with before, what made things worse was it could feel it effecting all those tasty fire spirits it had devoured underground making them weaker, and without those it... A sudden memory of how small and weak it used to be entered it mind.

NEVER! Never would if go back to that form! It must crush the weak human! Crush it and make the coldness go away!

Raising it's clawed hand it crushed down on Nyven with all it's might."Gah no time to block." thought Xan rushed as fast she could leaping in the way taking the blow full force protecting Nyven.

Nyven remained focusing on freezing the creature. She appeared as though she didn't notice that it had just tried to attack her nor that someone had just taken the attack to protect her. All of her thoughts were centered on keeping control of her magic. With each passing second, she was biting down on her lip just a bit harder than before. Her grip on the wrapped metal sphere tightened as well. Within moments, however, the glove wrapping the sphere began to burst into flames, causing her to quickly toss it aside with a scream before she placed her hand back onto the creature.

The heat surrounding the monster was too strong for it to be frozen with a simple freezing spell. So she was transferring large amounts of the heat energy into the metal sphere which she pulled from her staff. It was the only thing she had the she thought would be able to handle the large amount of heat she would be putting into it. Unfortunately, it caused her a terrible burn on her right hand, but it was necessary to get the preparations for the freezing ready, as it reduced the temperature on the area of the creature she was getting started on quite a way, allowing her follow up much less hindrance than it would have had, otherwise.

Taking a breath, she firmly placed both hands together as she began the actual ice spell, causing large amounts of ice to form across the creature much more rapidly than before.

The monster roared in anger and pain, in a act of desperation it reached back and in a unexpected move tore it's own frozen leg off, screaming in pain it smacked Nyven away with it's own leg and started hobbling towards one of the incapacitated villagers chopping it's teeth.

Xan laying on the ground looking battered gritted her teeth. "This has gone on long enough." She said with every word spoken showing signs of pain. Pulling herself up she let out a cry of pain, steeling herself against the pain she spoke. "Dee emergency release on power limiters to stage one." Dee looked at the ground then at Xan. "Access granted, stage one allowed for a maximum of thirty seconds or in till threat is eliminated."

Time seemed to freeze for Nyven, the air stood perfectly still, nothing moved, suddenly a rush of power like she never felt in her life surged across the land, the force was so strong the tree's around them bent as it hit by a powerful gust of wind, dust blew in all directions away from Xan and the windows on the few standing huts shuttered.

Xan stood there charged with energy as a portion of her power was unleashed, holding her hand above the ground she uttered these words.
"Arise, Shinigami." Out of the ground in front of her burst a large obelisk shaped tombstone, protruding from the top was the handle of some sort of weapon, wasting no time Xan grabbed the handle and ripped out of the tombstone a large battle scythe, giving the weapon a few quick spins Xan faced the monster once again.

The events that just happened seemed to all happen at once to Nyven, space and time seem to distort for a moment, and then it started.
The still air now felt eerily chilly as if death itself had come to the battlefield, the color of everything around them seemed to dull at the mere presence of this scythe was sapping the life out of the land. Then Nyven felt that same life draining effect on herself, a unexplained fear now gripped her heart the kind of fear one only gets when facing death, she felt as if her very soul was tugging at it's mortal frame to be free. And then Dee began her count down.....

"29"

"28......"

Nyven had kept all of her focus on the freezing of this massive creature. It was too late for her to realize that it had removed its own leg in an attempt to prevent its icy fate and had begun to try knocking her away from it. As the desperately improvised weapon began to close in on her, all she could do was quickly attempt to turn her gaze aside and try to raise her arms to brace the impact.

Hearing a sharp thud along with a flash of white, Nyven was sent flailing to the ground. A screaming pain shot through her arms and her breath was lost. Unable to realize what had just happened, she had begun to lose focus on her surroundings and became overwhelmed by sudden fear.

Nyven's thoughts began to question whether she was actually still alive at this moment, or if the previous event was even real. A loud ringing was shooting through her ears and her vision was slightly unfocused. It took her several seconds to readjust and realize that the monster had knocked her to the ground. With both of her arms crossed carefully in front of her, she attempted to try to carefully role over to her front and sit upright on her knees. Her sight began to readjust to have her see that the creature was no longer standing over her, but instead, Tiri was hovering above with much muffled, panicked shrieking.

Still dazed, Nyven tried to get to her feet. Stumbling away, she tripped over the staff she dropped to the ground, crashing to her left shoulder with a discomforted cry, facing the way she was moving from. She was hardly able to move anymore and just lied there, staring at the events that had begun as the woman started speaking to the child, the conversation practically inaudible to her.

With Tiri landing to the ground and nudging against her in a worried fashion, Nyven silently watch ahead of her as the event unfolded.

"27"

"26.."

Dee's count down barely broke through the cold dead air over the battlefield as Xan stood facing the abomination. The creature now filled with terror from the unexplained power emitting from Xan, began to hobble away as fast as it could dropping it's leg. Xan slowly walked towards the monster, every step she took the grass withered and died around her feet, suddenly in the blink of a eye she had moved from her current position to in front of the creature. The monster screamed as suddenly it's right arm fell off, cut clean somehow during Xan's movement.

"19"

"18.."

The creature fell to the ground unable to hold itself up, stretching it left arm out it tried to drag itself away pitifully.

"13"

"12"

"11.."

Xan stood there watching it without emotion, the effects of her power where growing stronger by the second, the towns people writhing in pain on the ground as their life force slowly seeped from their bodies. Xan stood there twisting her scythe handle in her hand, then gave it a sharp twist so the blade was pointing straight up, pulling back the scythe she did a quick upper cut slash on the monster rending the beast in two.

The monster scream in pain for a moment then exploded as the fire spirits escaped their prison, slowly they floated free some stopped and floated around Xan as if showing a sign of gratitude. Xan's expression suddenly changed, no long was it a cold look of indifference but one of hunger, raising her hand towards the spirits her expression changed yet again to one of ravenous hunger. The spirits now seemed to be being pulled towards Xan's hand, even though they tried to fight it.

"6"

"5...."

Dee noticing Xan dropped her count down. "Xan no!" Dee started rushing towards Xan. "Xan! STOP! Enforce power limiters now!"
Xan suddenly stopped moving, the power coming off her disappeared, then the scythe in her hand shattered like glass the shards falling to the ground turning to dust. Xan blinked her eyes moving her arms she looked around for a second then dropped to her knees vomiting.
Dee moved quickly to Nyven. "Are you ok Miss's lady do you need help?"

Nyven was silent. Her tearful, yet expressionless eyes slowly drifted in Dee's direction as she spoke. The pain she felt seemed to dull as much as the noise. Her breathing seemed slow but steady, yet she was unable to bring herself to speak. She was caught in an unsteady feeling of unconsciousness even though she was awake. Today's events have taken a heavy toll.

Tiri slowly lowered himself in front of her with a sad groan, looking at the child standing before them in a manner that seemed to be seeking help. Nyven watching her small companion worry for her left her with yet another uneasy feeling, causing her to break down even more and cry out loudly, slowly turning herself to face the ground.

Dee knelt besides the injured Nyven. "That was quite the hit you took Miss's Lady." She quickly examined her injuries with the skill of a trained physician. "Now I hate to say it but me nor Xan have any knowledge of magical healing artes, but your in luck cause it so happens that Xan comes from a race of fighters so treating injuries is my specialty." Dee reached into a small pouch she had tied to her waist and pulled out a small jar with a pink ointment inside. Dee quickly applied the ointment to Nyven's injuries, the ointment quickly had a pain killing effect as it relaxed her muscles.

"This will ease the pain and help the healing process." She said putting away the jar. "I don't think anything is broken but you should take it slow Miss's Lady. How are you feeling?"

Around them the towns folk began to recover from the monstrous attack as Xan slowly got to her feet having recovered from her illness."

Nyven was unable to be spoken to, nor could she properly speak to reply to anything one would say. The day's events were all too sudden, everything rushing all at once. Everything scattered into fragments in her mind, cutting her off from reality as the many different thoughts rushed to try and reform. It would take time for her to recover. She had crashed.

Tiri crawled slightly closer and lied down. A heavy sadness could be seen in his eyes as he placed his head to the ground and curled up, hoping that being there would help her calm down and become the cheerful person he'd always play with. Perhaps if he weren't so much smaller than the rest of the wyverns, he'd have been able to protect her as she does for him.

A few hours had passed since the start of all this trouble, the villagers had more or less recovered however whether it was due to the monsters fear effect field it emitted or Xan's powers the villagers remembered nothing of the days events so far, how surprised they where waking up to find half their village destroyed, and a new hot spring where there wasn't one yesterday.

Xan had little trouble convincing the villagers that a large quake was what caused the damage.

Dee hurried around the village helping out everyone making sure they where ok, constantly checking up on Nyven with words of encouragement.
"You feeling better Miss's Lady? Would you like some tea Miss's Lady? Are you comfy laying on the ground Miss's Lady?" Sometimes she'd try to pet Tiri and offer it some fruit the villagers had given her.

Xan limped over to Nyven and laid in the grass beside her, starring up at the sky she said. "Quite a day this has been."
